Many people breed worms in bins specially made for the purpose from materials like plywood, concrete or even concrete blocks. In commercial breeding the worms have to be kept warm in winter by having the bins insulated.

This can be done either cheaply by installing hot water pipes running through the beds or by electric heating which can turn out to be expensive. For commercial worm breeding it takes up to 5 years to break even but once successful then there is no looking back.
