Fishing Worms

Fish love to eat worms and anglers sound that these worms are excellent and perfect fishing bait. Most people who go fishing use worms as baits. The most common and popular fishing worms used by anglers are the Dendrobaena, lobworms and mealworms.

The Dendrobaena is a highly popular worm as it can not only survive in fresh water but also brackish water. It is lively and wriggles a lot attracting fishes and can survive in absolutely cold water. These worms can be used to catch quality fish like Carp while you can use small worms to catch fish in canals or ponds.

Dendrobaena are easier to care for and all they need is spacious container which has air holes and some moist bedding with a lit bit of food. Make sure that they are kept away from direct sunlight. Keeping them this way will help the worms survive for weeks. But do make sure to keep the lid of the container intact as the worms have the tendency to escape in the dark if left uncovered.

Lob worms are large with flat tails and easily found in the gardens. These worms come mainly from Canada where they are considered as pests. These worms are perfect bait for catching big fish like Perch, Eels, Carp, and Roach etc. as fish simply love these worms.

You can also use mealworms for fishing and these are actually the larval stages of the common darkling beetles that are found as pests in flour, rice, and grains. They can either be very small or even up to an inch long. Anyone can raise these worms at home easily. For an initial supply one can get it from dealers.

They can be placed in wooden boxes which are about eight inches in depth and 24 inches in length and 18inches in width and half filled with flour to which some bran is to be added. Maintain proper ventilation and make sure the worm bedding is kept moist with foods like raw potatoes, carrots, banana peels etc. Leave the worms to grow without any disturbance for a few weeks. Keep changing the trays to grow more worms for fishing.
